Kent to decide on captain for 2013
Kent to decide on captain for 2013

Kent Cricket will take time to reflect on how the side did last season before deciding on who will captain the side for 2013.

Skippered by Rob Key for the past six seasons, Kent narrowly missed out on promotion to the First Division of the County Championship, whilst performing well in both Twenty 20 and CB40 cricket.

At thirty three, Key still has what could be the best years ahead of him as both an opening batsman and captain, with Chief Executive Jamie Clifford telling KSN how Kent were yet to decide to who will lead the side for 2013:

“We go through a period of review at the end of every season and that’s not quite over yet. In the last general committe meeting, we didn’t talk about the captaincy at all.”

“The general committee ultimately do sign off the captain’s appointment and there is another meeting before Christmas at which point I am sure that will happen.”

Back in the summer, Sam Northeast took over the reigns of the captaincy for the tour match against South Africa, but he told KSN just last week how he believed Key would still be in charge of the side for next season:

“I’d be amazed if Keysey wasn’t captain next year. Everyone has really enjoyed having him as captain over the past few years and he along with Jimmy Adams have given us a really good platform.”

“It’s something down the line I would like to do. The South Africa game was a great experience, so it will be something that I keep in mind for sure.”

Meanwhile, Kent remain on the lookout for players to strenghten their squad, both at home and abroad with Clifford telling KSN how the club are exploring option:

“The brief to the cricket management is to keep our options open, keep a watching brief on the market. We’re pleased with where we are at with the stability going into next year, but there isn’t too much happening with movement.”

“We wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t keep our eye on the market and see who’s there. At this stage, there are no developments, but that’s not particularly concerning because the season is a long way off and I’m actually fairly confident the group we have got means we’re in pretty good shape anyway.”

“Anything that did happen on that front would be in addition to what is already a well stocked squad.”
